So after 5 weeks of almost perfect weather in some of the wettest parts of the world, the rain finally found us as we drove out of Nelson, New Zealand's sunniest city.
The plan was to drive up through the Marlborough Sounds and take in the breathtaking scenery, but with visibility down to 4 feet, and on some of the windiest roads so far, we cut our losses and drove to Picton.
Apart from the ferry terminal, there isn't a lot to see in Picton. It has the definite vibe of a seaside town, out of season. I guess that this is forgivable, as it's a seaside town, out of season.
The overwhelming highlight were the super hi-tech public loos, which appeared to be controlled by Leonard Nimoy, RIP :(
As you entered the pod, and found the 'Lock door' button, Mr Spock informed you that the facility was now locked, and you had up to 10 minutes 'usage time'. In order to discourage you from using up your allotted time, the dulcet tones of Mr Nimoy gave way to some really terrible jazz muzak.
Neither of us stuck around to find out what happened after your 10 minutes were up.
The rain finally stopped, and the sea was nice and calm in Samuel's Strait.
I wonder whether anyone has ever outstayed the 10 minute welcome period just to see what would happen. Unless there is a system for counting them in and counting them out again, that would worry me a bit.
ReplyDeleteThat's a remarkably nice photo of a ferry, by the way. A
I thought that, too! C, from Exmoor (amazingly nice day.
ReplyDeleteYep, my strait. Glad you're back in areas I own. For a given value of "own".
